Resistance Stretching is a little known techique perfected 20-30 years ago by Bob Cooley and his complete style is called Resistance Flexibility Stretching Techniques, RFST.   It is the world's most efficient stretching system because it is exactly how your body desires you to stretch.  

 

Resistance Stretching is even more efficient and effective than PNF stretching, Yoga, and all known and commonly taught styles of stretching.  Very often, one week to one month of sessions yields more results for people with severe dysfunctional movement and or pain than does one to six months of Physical Therapy.

PNF Stretching is an advanced stretching technique that entails both stretching and contracting particular muscle groups in order to render improved flexiblity, increase muscular strength, improve joint mobility, decreasing tension and risk of injury and reinjury.

 

PNF stands for Proprioceptive Neuromuscualr Facilitation and its initial use was to actually be a form of rehabilitative therapy for people who had suffered a stroke or paralysis; however, thanks to its proven effectiveness as such, it soon gained the attention of physiotherapist and fitness experts.  

 

Today PNF is a method of increasing one's comfortable range of motion but tends to rarely be used outside of large athletic teams although its benefits can and should be realized by everyone at any fitness level.

Let me help you improve your everyday life through stretching for flexibility and mobility.  Everyone knows that they should do some stretching regularly, but few take the time, have the energy or they’re already so tight, their own attempts are dangerous.

 

I offer 60 and 90 minute sessions with extremely reasonable pricing.  The sessions are always very safe and productive.  The typical comment from a person post session is, “My legs/arms feel lighter, I’m moving easier”.  

 

I highly recommend the 90 minutes session over the 60 after your very first session.  The longer session greatly adds to the possible results that can be achieved in that session.  

 

Everyone benefits from these sessions; my clients range from athletic teens to regular moms/dads, to weight-lifters, to professional athletes, especially NPC competitors, to seniors in their 80's.  

 

On many occasions, a person walks or limps in with neck spasms or neck pain, knee pain, lower back pain and 90 minutes later, they are comfortably walking out with a smile of relief.  Further, they've typically been taught self corrective techniques to use if they have a problem in the future.

 

The sessions begin with a conversation to learn your history, hear your symptoms, needs and concerns.  Next you’ll be guided through several movement-screens to assess how your joints perform.  The movement-screens are combined with your symptoms to create an action plan for the session.  Each and every session begins like this to ensure your time here is productive.

 

The techniques used are a combination of, and typically follow this order;

 

Passive assessment:

Stretches: 

  • PNF (1) Contract/Hold & (2) Contract/Relax non-movements/movements to teach the brain to engage just the desired muscles and then to release them. 

  • The desired effect is to gain more passive flexibility and then increased mobility; to teach the brain how to efficiently fire, direct and control the limbs and body through a more optimal range of motion.  

When needed direct pressure for myofascial release is also used to complement the stretching or in some cases to even allow the muscle to stretch at all.  

 

Similarly, Active-Mobility techniques may be used to also purposely limit some muscle fibers from engagement so as to emphasize others.  

 

A majority of every session is Resistance Stretching which is the world's most effective technique.  It is the natural way that muscles stretch best and most thoroughly, but it is a system that is little known of by many.  

 

The use of all my techniques make a very comprehensive approach ensuring that you will always feel better after your time with New Found Strength Fitness & Nutrition.

 

Proper breathing techniques are instructed at the beginning of the session to ensure your ability to maintain control of the CNS, decrease any anxiety, and further increase the possible results from the stretching. 

 

At session’s end, I will offer & instruct on suggestions for self-stretching that you can do between your sessions at New Found Strength. 

 

Likewise, the twice monthly,  90 minute group Mobility-Class is another recommendation for anyone who hasn’t mastered their own flexibility and mobility.  This class given in New Found Strength, Fitness & Nutrition Studio teaches you how to be self-sufficient and not rely on others.  However, if you prefer the 1-on-1 assistance, I am happy to help you.
